Micro Story-Mine Hunting

Deep in the guttural bowels of the earth a light flashes, illuminating two faces, one expected, one unexpected. One confused by the look of horror on his photographer friend's face, and one blank, a clean slate devoid of flesh, muscle, and sinew; instead of eyes, empty sockets, unable to communicate murderous intent. The teeth rotted and cracked, full of disease the prey will not live to be victim to

The confused one falls first, never knowing the frozen fear of the witness. The witness fights back, but his blows fail to damage ancient bone.

Outside the mine, perfect silence, for the wildlife knows to avoid this portal, inside the creature slowly ruminates over his meal, and dreams of the future search party.
